Eskisehir's master Ayhan Karahan is well known not only for his skills as a meerschaum carver, but for his affinity for the Austrian schools of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Vienna was once a powerhouse of meerschaum carving, rivaling even Turkey in its elevation of the practice into a genuine art form. Here we see him following the centuries-old tradition of the meerschaum bust, with its subject being President Abraham Lincoln.
